Ready Set Go Maths Programme

Here are Junior Infants sorting objects by various attributes

Science Week November 2019

Floating and Sinking

  • Children examined a group of photos and items they thought would float and items the imagined would sink. We then tested our findings to see what happened and recorded our results.

Magnets

We took a walk around our classroom to identify things that were magnetic.

Dancing Raisins Experiment

We carried out an experiment to test what would happen to fresh raisins when we put them in water and when we put them into 7up. Here is what we discovered...…...
Jar 1: When we put the raisins in the water they sank to the bottom of the jar. Why??? Raisins are heavier and have a greater density to water and therefore sink.
Jar 2: However, when we put the raisins into the 7up they sank to the bottom, but only for a few moments! After a few seconds they begin to rise to the top of the jar. Why??? Raisins have more density than 7up so they sink to the bottom, but the carbon dioxide bubbles stick to the surface of the raisin causing them to float to the top of the jar. When the bubbles detach from the raisin they sink again.
