Ukulele - Music Generation Mayo
Everyone is really looking forward to the Young Musicians of Mayo concert in the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar on Thursday May 26th. Learning the ukulele this year was great fun and a big thank you to Keif for teaching us. Here are a few photos of our final rehearsal with Keif and his friends. It was so exciting to see the band setting up their instruments in our classroom and we loved listening to the solo performances!
Science Blast 2022
Good Luck to Rang a Cúig presenting their Science Blast investigation to their judge on Tuesday April 5th. They investigated,
What will happen if we mix different liquids and solids to create a volcano and what size will the eruption be?
Everyone worked very hard deciding what to investigate and then making their volcano. We went shopping for everything we would need, then the fun began! You can see our work below. We also took lots of photos and recorded videos of our experiments.

It was 2021. Tom and Peter were going to have their future predicted by Madame Mist. They went into her prediction room. “Welcome children,” said Madame Mist. “ Take a seat, please.” They sat around a circular table. She looked into her crystal ball and said mysteriously “I can see you are going to have the most amazing adventure.”
“Is that it?” asked Tom rudely. “Any more information about this amazing adventure?” “No, I don't think there is.” answered Madame Mist crossly. Tom snatched the crystal ball and shook it violently. He accidentally dropped the ball and it cracked open.
Suddenly the crystal ball started sucking Tom in . Peter grabbed hold of him but they were both sucked in. Then the ball resealed itself. Peter and Tom were gone!
The boys were spinning, spinning. Thump!
They landed on cold hard tarmac.
“I think I broke my …. everything” said Peter weakly. “You’re fine,” said Tom. “Where are we?'' asked Peter. “I don't know ,” replied Tom. They looked around. They were in a town. It had lots of high-tech gadgets like flying cars, robots, and people flying with jetpacks.
“I think we are in the future!” shouted Tom.
A nearby sign read: Please remove your rubbish to help our 2090 cleaners!
“2090!” exclaimed Tom and Peter together. “Don't panic, I have a plan,” said Peter calmly. “We will find Madame Mist and she will help us get back.
“OK, so where will we find her?” asked Tom.
“She will definitely be very old, so maybe a nursing home.” suggested Peter.
They raced off down the road searching for a nursing home.
It didn’t take too long until they found one. They burst inside and asked the first person they met, an old man, if he knew Madame Mist.
“Madame Mist” puzzled the man, “You mean Sinéad Mist?”
“Yes, Sinéad Mist.” said Tom.
“Hey, you look like me,” said the man to Tom. “ Hey Peter, doesn’t this fellow look like me?” said the man to another old man called Peter.
“He really does look like you Tom,” he replied. Tom and Peter realised that they were talking to older versions of themselves.
“It’s just a coincidence that you look similar” muttered Peter, “now could you tell us where Sinéad Mist is please and we’ll be on our way?”
“She’s over there in the corner,” said the older Peter.
They ran over to the corner and found Madame Mist sitting in an armchair.
“We are from the past and we need you to send us back”, blurted Tom quickly.
“You are from the past,” repeated Madame Mist slowly.
“Yes we are.” confirmed Tom.
“I will send you back.”said Madame Mist.
She placed a pocket watch on the floor. It exploded and lots of magic dust went everywhere. Tom and Peter were spinning, spinning. Thud! They landed on a hard gravel road. They looked up and saw horses, carts and thatched houses.
“We went too far back in time!” they screamed.
“Nooooooo!”

Our Projects on The Normans.
We were learning about The Normans in History. We researched some of Ireland's castles as part of our mini-projects. We started collecting boxes and other materials to make our own castle. We spent lots of time planning our design and experimented with different ways of constructing our castles.
Before we started building our castles, we had lots of boxes!
5th Class architects hard at work!
Our finished castles
There were some lovely hidden features, courtyards, balconies and stables with horses. We saw some detailed turrets, hidden compartments, slides and working drawbridges. Well done to each group on their fantastic castle building and design.
