National Tree Day 5th October 2017
This week we read 'The Story of Chocolate' which explained the production of chocolate from the cocoa bean to the chocolate bar. We watched videos of different stages of the production line and found it very interesting. Luckily, our English book also had a recipe for Chocolate Cornflake buns, which we just had to try! Don't they look yummy.
Our New Vegetable Garden!
This year our school is working towards our Green Schools Flag for Biodiversity. We have started to create our own vegetable garden. Our class planted broccoli, cabbage.
Second Class Halloween Party
First and Second Class designed and made our own Halloween masks. Have a look at our finished masks.
Michael Fitzmaurice has been working with the TY students in Gortnor Abbey to teach football skills to First and Second Class. Take a look at us in action.
Christmas with the Aliens
We really hope you enjoyed our Christmas play 'Christmas with the Aliens'. We had great fun learning our lines, singing our songs and dressing up for our show.
We enjoy playing games on our tablets and PlayStations but when our grandparents were young they didn't have electronics to play with. They played lots of card games, so we learned the game 'Old Maid' while we were getting ready for Grandparent's Day and really enjoyed playing it.
Hurricane Ophelia, Storm Fionn, snow days...we have been having lots of different weather throughout the last few months. We have been learning about how meteorologists predict the weather and the instruments they use. We made a rain gauge and found 7 cm of rain fell in our school yard in one week. We researched and created projects on hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, and Crossmolina floods and presented our projects to the class. We looked at satellite images and watched the weather forecast and wrote our own forecast which we presented to the class. You could be looking at the next Teresa Mannion!

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year begins on February 16th. We are learning about the story of the Chinese zodiac and the animal of the year we were born. Children born in 2010 are Tigers and those born in 2011 are Rabbits, while children born in 2009 were born in the year of the Ox. The Chinese celebrate the New Year with a dragon parade and lanterns. In groups, we constructed our own dragon.
